Jones, R., Baetjer, A. M., and Reid, L. (1971). Brit. J. industr. Med., 28, 369-373. Effect of extremes of temperature and humidity on the goblet cell count in the rat airway epithelium. To investigate the effect of environmental temperature and humidity on the goblet cells in the rat airway epithelium, eight animals were exposed for four to five weeks to each of the following conditions: normal; hot-moist or tropical; hot-dry or desert; and cold. The animals in the three groups exposed to abnormal atmospheric conditions failed to gain weight as fast as those in the control group. No increase in the number or area of goblet cells was found in any group, although with irritants previously tested, such as tobacco smoke, a marked increase has been found in this time. It would seem that climatic effects are much less important than irritation in the production of hypertrophy and hyperplasia of mucus-secreting cells, the hallmark of chronic bronchitis.

Effects of Heat and Lead on the Reproductive System of Male Wistar Rat
Introduction: Wistar rats are an outbred strain of albino rats belonging to the species Rattus norvegicus. Histopathological studies on the testis was carried out to determine the effects of heat and lead on male fertility by evaluating some andrological parameters of the wistar rat such as morphology of spermatozoa, sperm count and motility. The main objective of this research was to compare t...

Background: Although chemotherapy drugs used in treatment of cancer such as lukemia, prostate and ovary cancer and oligospermia is important contraceptive of this drugs therefore this drugs are author of infertility or low fertility in specimen. In the other hand, the studies show that melatonin is secreted from pineal gland has a direct efficacy on the gonads. The aim of this study was to inve...
متن کاملMorphological changes in injured retinal pigment epithelium and photoreceptor cells after transplantation of stem cells into subretinal space
Introduction: Degenerative retinal diseases are main cause of irreversible blindness. Stem cells therapy is a promising way in these diseases. Therefore, mesenchymal stem cells because of its safety can produce degenerated cells and can play important role in treatment. The aim of this study was to examine morphological changes in injured retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and photoreceptor cells...
متن کاملEffect of bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells on lung pathology and inflammation in ovalbumin-induced asthma in mouse
Objective(s):Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) have attracted significant interest to treat asthma and its complication. In this study, the effects of BMSCs on lung pathology and inflammation in an ovalbumin-induced asthma model in mouse were examined. Materials and Methods:BALB/c mice were divided into three groups: control group (animals were not sensitized), asthma group (an...
متن کاملBcl-2 sustains increased mucous and epithelial cell numbers in metaplastic airway epithelium.
Bcl-2, an inhibitor of apoptosis, is expressed in LPS-induced metaplastic goblet cells of rat airways. The present study investigated expression of Bcl-2 in airway mucous cells of persons with cystic fibrosis and tested in rats and mice whether its expression is responsible for sustaining metaplastic mucous cells. A significantly higher percentage of mucous cells expressed Bcl-2 in humans with ...
